Virginia Blood Services is telling hospitals not to use its blood after a surgery patient died at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
A spokeswoman says two other patients have reacted to the blood which may be contaminated by bacteria.
The service is telling hospitals in Richmond, Charlottesville, Hopewell, South Hill, Farmville, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro NOT to perform transfusions unless it is a matter of life and death.

Authorities have charged two Virginia Tech students with making explosive devices and setting them off around campus.

Police say the bombs were made out of a plastic bottle, some type of liquid substance and aluminum foil.
Both men are charged with four counts of manufacturing an explosive device.

One location they have searched in recent days is a piece of rental property about five miles from the sight where human remains were discovered last week. Soon after Jennifer Short disappeared and her parents were murdered, investigators searched the property and questioned neighbors. They returned this week. The man who lived there disappeared soon after the murders and is now reportedly living out of the country. But investigators are NOT identifying him as a suspect.
