Fortunately, DeAngelo brings humility to the table along with the ability to handle peer pressure. He not only has managed to avoid getting the "Big Head" but he was the first Hokie to wear the BIG HELMET - the new Riddell helmet - known as the Revolution. The first major change in head gear design in some 25 years has resulted in a much safer, but futuristic looking helmet. ((LESTER KARLIN:)) That jaw area is key to the new helmet's design. The NFL funded five years of research to look into what causes concussions. The conclusion was that 70 percent of them come from hits to the side of the helmet. The sides are more protective on the new helmet - but it takes the eye a while to get used to it. And some players have refused to wear it because they think it looks too geeky. But after weighing the increased protection and comfort against style - DeAngelo decided it was more important to maintain his IQ then strive to be GQ. ((DEANGELO:)) Currently, only 5 Tech players wear the head gear - but you are seeing the revolution more and more and the product is now even being worn by several high school players in the area.
