The Roanoke Valley may have it's first HUMAN case of the West Nile Virus. Health officials say initial tests indicate a 35 year old woman from Roanoke County has contracted the disease. The woman lived near the Vinton area, one of the areas with greatest concentration of birds found with the virus.
The woman is recovering at home. Health Officials say it will be at least 10 days before the official results come back from CDC confirming she has the virus.
Health officials say the best protection is to avoid getting bitten by the mosquitos which spread the virus to humans.
