BUT SOURCES TELL CBS NEWS AUTHORITIES DO NOT BELIEVE THEY HAVE THE
SNIPER IN CUSTODY. THE TWO MEN ARE DESCRIBED AS MEXICAN AND GUATEMALAN,
BOTH UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS. AND SOURCES SAY THE SEARCH FOR THE SNIPER

Jean, it's encouraging. the patient was upgraded today from critical and guarded to critical and stable.

Doctors at Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond say the prognosis is encouraging for the 37-year-old man shot by the serial sniper Saturday night.

Doctors removed the patient's spleen, half of his pancreas, and two-thirds of his stomach.

The militant Palesitnian islamic group- Islamic Jihad is claiming responsbility.
Security sources say the explosion occured on a bus travelling in Northern Israel.
Palestiian suicide bombers blew up a car packed with explosives next to a bus- the flames were so hot the bus was reduced to a blackened skeleton.
A few passengesr managed to escape- some of them by crawling from windows- but others were trapped inside and burned to death.

Amherst County authorities are still looking for suspects in the murder of a Lynchburg man early this morning.

Police were called to Smitty's Restaurant on Route 60 East at around two.
That's where they found 26-year-old Eugene Payton Davis in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Davis later died at Lynchburg General Hospital.
A vehicle police believe was involved in the shooting was later stopped in Nelson County with seven people inside.
No word yet on any arrests.

But Crawley says Roanoke drivers typically undergo 60 hours of training before driving unassisted.

Harry Arrington raises the door to a shed, and reveals his latest work to visitors.
The room is packed with wooden miniatures, including a replica of the Hofauger House at Virginia's Explore Park.

And he knows wood... As a 17- year- old, he went to work in a furniture factory.
