That word came yesterday-- during a hearing to determine if Bowman should be released on bond. For now-- Bowman is being held as a material witness in the kidnapping of nine year old Jennifer Short. Yesterday-- a federal magistrate decided to keep Bowman in custody pending another detention hearing either this week or next. The magistrate partly based his decision on Bowman-- who actually asked to remain in custody for now.

A circuit court judge said he will wait until jury selection, before moving Livingston "Bud" Pritchett's trial.
Pritchett was convicted in 19-99 for the shooting death of Estel (ES-tul) Singleton, but was given a new trial because the jury wasn't aware of the extent of his mental retardation.
Pritchett's attorneys believe he would not get a fair trial a second time because of the publicity.
His new trial is set for November 12th.

The sniper shootings have prompted Governor Warner to consider safety measures for Virginia voters when they head to the polls November fifth.
For now, those measures do NOT include posting National Guard troops at polling locations-- something Maryland's governor IS considering.
Warner says he's looking at ways of making polling places more secure, and at other options, such as greater use of absentee balloting.
He says more people may be moved inside polling places.

Now the state's closing 9 other D-M-V customer service centers even sooner than expected.

Instead they'll close for good today.
The D-M-V says it can not staff the offices because so many employees are taking earned leave time before they're laid-off.
