Those the words of Wellstone's campaign manager today.

All eight people aboard the plane were killed- including Senator Wellstone, his wife, daughter and five other close friends.
Wellstone and his wife had three children in all- and several grandchildren.
On the political front- Wellstone was somewhat of a maverick- and was considered among the most Liberal of all the Senators.

(( It was drizzling rain and snow when the small plane Senator Wellstone had chartered crashed . It missed the runway at a
small northeastern Minnesota airport by 7 miles. On board, his wife, daughter and 5 other close friends.

"My heart is just destroyed today. He's a great leader for the people of Minnesota."

And it was those people that 58-year-old Wellstone was hoping to represent again. He was in the midst of a grueling re-election campaign...just 11 days away from election day. He even spent THIS morning campaigning with Senator Ted Kennedy. Wellstone's staff calls this accident the unthinkable. Wellstone began his career as a teacher at a Minnesota college. He then ran for and won the senate race in 19-90. Ove

r the past 12 years, he's made a mark for himself as a staunch liberal who most recently opposed Bush's push for war on Iraq.
Bush "Paul Wellstone was a man of deep convictions, a plain spoken fellow who did his best for his state and for his country."
And his country is honoring his memory today. Minnesota's governor

echoed the sentiments of so many.

A man was shot and wounded outside River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg this afternoon.

The victim was shot once in the torso.
He's been taken to Lynchburg General Hospital. No word on his condition.
Police say the shooting happened outside the Hecht's store at about 3:45.
The store's surveillance tape showed the shooting took place after an argument between two men.
Police say the suspect ran off toward the Ward's Road area.
He's described as a black male, thin build, wearing a grey sweatshirt and a black coat.

Governor Warner is calling on prosecutors to act quickly.

One journalist allowed in says she was stunned by the hostages mood.
She says they were preparing to die.
Chechen rebels did release several children early today but they are holding some 600 people hostage-
These pictures were taken inside the theater.
The Rebels have threatened to kill the hostages beginning at dawn IF Russia doesn't agree to pull its army out of Chechnya.
Russia has offered to guarantee the rebel's lives if they release the hostages.
About 75 foreigners are among those being held including three Americans.

Actor Richard Harris has died. A family spokesman says Harris died of cancer at a hospital in London. The Irish actor had starred in two Harry Potter movies-- including the one that is about to be released. He also appeared in the screen classic "Camelot." Harris had been getting chemotherapy for Hodgkin's disease. Richard Harris was 72 years old.

The San Francisco Giants almost lost their good luck charm in last night's World Series game.

Darren Baker, the 3-year-old son of manager Dusty Baker, nearly stole the show in Game Five when he narrowly avoided a collision at home plate.
J-T Snow was on third and David Bell was on second when Kenny Lofton hit a triple.
As Snow ran home and Bell rounded third base, the Giants first baseman realized that the youngster was standing on the plate, oblivious to the action around him.
Snow snatched him up and carried him out of the way.
Darren Baker was not hurt, but his Dad got a toungue lashing.
Dusty's mother called him immediately after the game to ask why her grandson was put in harm's way.
Still Darren is expected to make the trip to Anaheim.
The Giants are three and Oh in games he's worked.
