Superintendent Jim Blevins says the problem is that Montvale Elementary isn't using enough water. He says as the water sits in the water lines waiting to be used-- the chlorine in it loses its effectiveness. The school plans to now flush the water lines once a week in hopes of resolving the problem. In the meantime-- students will be using bottled water.

Investigators want to talk to two men they call witnesses in the shooting death of a Henry County man.

The victim is 25-year-old Charles Antwan Saunders-
He was found shot once in the head inside his Fieldale home early this morning.
Investigators are trying to retrace Saunders' last 24 hours and they want to talk to anyone who saw him.
They've also released composite sketches of two men seen near his home.
One's described as about 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, wearing a black stocking cap.
The other's described as 5 feet 7, 135 pounds... also wearing a stocking cap.

Ryder was wearing a black dress and even cracked a smile as she passed through a security check. Later the DA told the jury Ryder took merchandise under her own two for one bonus program. She says evidence will show Ryder paid for a few items, but had more than twenty others concealed in a bag. Ryder is charged with shoplifting some $6,000 of designer goods from this Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. This surveillance camera video will be introduced during the trial. One investigator says she saw Ryder kneeling on a dressing room floor, cutting security tags off merchandise. CHRIS LAWRENCE/CBS NEWS: But Ryder has no previous record, and her attorney has accused the Saks staff of lying. He also says the prosecutor has an axe to grind. The defense says the store had Ryder's credit card on file, and she told a clerk to keep it open. The attorney also said one of the security guards lifted Ryder's top, which prompted her to scream at them to leave her alone. The first witness to testify: the chief security guard at Saks, who says he watched Ryder acting suspiciously, and didn't know or care who she was. An un-tended stove is to blame for a fire at an assisted living facility in Blacksburg.

Flames broke out just before seven this morning inside an apartment unit at Warm Hearth Village.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the kitchen area, so residents were allowed to go back inside.

Two minor injuries were reported--both were treated on the scene.

Fire officials say an electrical malfunction started the blaze at a Roanoke warehouse last week. Evidence confirms the initial belief that it began in the basement. Total damages are estimated at 500-thousand dollars. Because of contractual questions and structural issues, fire officials say for now, the remainder of the warehouse will not be demolished. Salem Avenue is now re-opened to drivers. Norfolk Avenue will remain closed until all the debris is removed.

And after several minutes---- the kitty kat opened its eyes and meowed.

Yesterday afternoon in New York, Art Howe was officially introduced as the new manager of the Mets.
Howe, who is a member of the Salem-Roanoke baseball hall of fame, leaves Oakland for a four year nine and a-half million dollar contract. Howe led the Carolina League in hitting in 1971 while playing for Salem.

And in Tampa-St.Pete yesterday the Devil Rays were upgraded their sorry franchise by hiring manager Lou Piniella. Piniella gets a four year deal worth $ 13 million dollars. He wanted to get a job closer to his home - instead he got one in the city where he resides. His Mariners won over 100 games last year, his new Devil Rays lost over 100.
