It's the result of Thursday's massive fire at a warehouse next to the Transportation Museum.

This weekend, a demolition crew knocked down the back wall so firefighters could put out the fire which was still burning in the basement. Crews will be back again today to begin knocking down the remaining walls-- so Salem Avenue will remain closed between Third and Fourth Streets.

Virginia Tech police are still trying to figure out how a student fell to his death over the weekend.

University officials say freshman Ryan Evans fell from his dorm window on the seventh floor of Lee Hall, Saturday evening.
Tech Police say neither alcohol nor foul play are suspected. Evans was a business major from Stafford, Virginia.
A bouquet of flowers has been placed near the spot where Evans fell to his death.

Jerry Falwell's Thomas Road Baptist Church had some visitors yesterday... as about hundred members of the homosexual activist group "Soulforce" gathered in protest.

Danville police are investigating a possible homicide. It started with reports of shots fired Sunday morning on Jefferson Street.
Police found 21-year old Harold Blaize Junior dead inside a car .. that had crashed into a home on another street. Officers are not sure how he died, so an autopsy is scheduled for later today. Meantime, a 28 year old female passenger was found across the street with a gunshot wound to the hand. Police are looking for several suspects.

A weekend shooting in Henry County has authorities looking for clues. They were called to a residence in Fieldale Sunday .. where they found the body of 25- year old Charles Antwan Saunders. Investigators say Saunders suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head. No word on any arrests.

The case of an 18- year- old accused of "murder for hire" will likely head back into the courtroom... and Martinsville's Commowealth Attorney is confident she can win a conviction...

Lisa Thomas Muhammed was fatally shot in September of 2000 while working in the store she and her husband operated.
[SUPER=03-Martinsville/January 2001;]

18- year old Billy Ray Manns went on trial for the murder earlier this month. The Commonwealth argued Manns was hired to kill Thomas by her husband, Maverick Muhammed. The defense questioned that theory suggesting Muhammed could have done the killing himself. The jury was deadlocked and a judge declared a mistrial.

A Salem boy won't let his handicap slow him down...

He is a ten year old boy who has a tumor on his spinal cord.
Jacob recently had two surgeries and spent nine weeks in the hospital.
Doctors had to remove part of his spinal cord, leaving Jacob confined to a wheelchair.

Yesterday, nearly three hundred riders took part in a poker run to raise money to help pay for Jacob's treatment.
The ride raised more than seven thousand dollars.
Jacob plans to return to school at Mason Cove Elementary this morning.
