Bowman's friends John Beasley and Danny Sizemore drove up from North Carolina to take their friend back home.
They hope Bowman will be able now to clear his name, though they worry for his safety.

So far, nothing has linked Bowman to the Shorts EXCEPT his landlord, who raised the first suspicions about his involvement.
Today, investigators from the F-B-I, Henry County and Rockingham County are in Inuvik, Canada, searching Bowman's van for forensic evidence.

Authorities in Pittsylvania County are releasing little information about the early morning murder of a father and son.

A teenager was killed when his Jeep Cherokee overturned in Botetourt County today.
State Police say 17-year-old Travis Ray Bird was thrown from the vehicle and crushed in the accident on Colonial Road.
Police say Bird ran off the road and hit a driveway just after 8:30 this morning.
He was not wearing a seat belt.

Lewis Gale Clinic is getting out of the day-care business.

Sunshine Station will close at the end of the year. A spokesman for the clinic says it can better use the space. The day-care center will be converted to a facility for psychiatric care. Lewis Gale Clinic has made arrangements with Honey Tree Early Learning Centers to absorb at least some of the 115 children currently at Sunshine Station.

A former Washington and Lee University food purchasing agent has been acquitted on three charges of embezzling from the school.
Dee Miriello (meer-ee-ELL'-oh) was accused of helping former Washington and Lee chef Greg Pearce embezzle 70-thousand dollars from the school.
Pearce kept cash rebates from food distributors.
Miriello admitted receiving three to four-thousand dollars in cash per year for several years.
But she said Pearce gave the monoey to her in lieu of a raise.
Miriello resigned from Washington and Lee in March.
