The college's finance committee voted unanimously today to recommend raising tuition by 400 dollars.
The tuition increase is designed to help the college compensate for a nearly five-million dollar reduction in state money.
The action must be approved by the full board of visitors, which meets in November.
If approved, the increase will go into effect in the spring semester.

No criminal charges will be placed against an A-B-C agent accused of giving moonshine as a gag gift.
Special prosecutor Don Caldwell says there's not enough evidence to charge Agent Bev Whitmer.
Whitmer presented two game wardens with mason jars containing a clear liquid at a farewell dinner in Franklin County back in May.
At the time, he described the liquid as "water."
But the two wardens said it smelled and tasted like liquor.
They later dumped it out.
Caldwell says because the evidence was thrown out, it's impossible to prove what it was...
AND since A-B-C keeps no inventory of its seized moonshine, it's impossible to say ANY was taken by Agent Whitmer.

It is the annual pumpkin drop at Old Dominion University.
This is not just for kicks- It is actually an exercise in physics.
Each year physics students drop pumpkins off of the roof- aiming at a target area below.
The object is to have students design catchers for the pumpkins that can capture them and keep the pumpkins in one piece.
That one worked... but obviously some of the projects did not work very well. (------------)
