THEY SAY THE THIRD PERSON COULD HAVE BEEN THE SHOOTER OR THE DRIVER OF A GETAWAY CAR. AND POLICE THERE ALSO BELIEVE THE SAME RIFLE USED IN THE WASHINGTON SNIPER ATTACKS - A RIFLE SIMILAR TO THIS - WAS USED TO KILL THE CLERK. THEY HAD ORIGINALLY THOUGHT THE MURDER WEAPON WAS A HANDGUN, BUT BALLISTICS TESTS MATCH THE RIFLE. Pledge is currently serving an eight-year sentence on federal racketeering charges.
The former cop admitted last year to crossing the line by accepting bribes and narcotics from drug dealers in Northwest Roanoke.
Pledge was sentenced for robbery.
His attorney argued today to the U-S Court of Appeals that his client should have received the lesser sentence for extortion.
He is asking for a new sentencing hearing.
