Good Afternoon, I'm Kimberly McBroom.
Authorities in Alabama who are working with Washington area investigators on the sniper case are now looking into the possibility that a THIRD person was involved in a murder there.
Teri Okita brings us the latest from Washington.

(( TRACK: ALABAMA POLICE ARE REPORTEDLY LINKING THE RIFLE USED IN THE WASHINGTON AREA SNIPER ATTACKS A RIFLE LIKE THIS ONE TO THE WEAPON USED IN THE ROBBERY AND SHOOTING DEATH OF A LIQUOR STORE CLERK IN MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA.

(A mandatory courtesy is already burned onto the photo.)

TRACK: ALLEGED SERIAL SNIPERS, JOHN MUHAMMED AND JOHN MALVO ARE ALSO SUSPECTS IN THE ALABAMA CASE, AND THE POLICE CHIEF THERE TELLS THE WASHINGTON POST THAT A THIRD PERSON MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED AT THE LIQUOR STORE. CHIEF JOHN WILSON SAYS MUHAMMED WAS SEEN WITH A HANDGUN, MALVO WITH A MAGAZINE PERHAPS AS A LOOKOUT BUT NEITHER REPORTEDLY HAD A RIFLE. THATS LEADING INVESTIGATORS TOWARDS A POSSIBLE THIRD SUSPECT.
TRACK: THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT STILL HASNT DECIDED WHO SHOULD GET FIRST CRACK AT PROSECUTING MUHAMMED AND MALVO. THE FEDS, MARYLAND, AND VIRGINIA HAVE ALL FILED MURDER CHARGES AGAINST THE TWO.

(Super: David Schertler/Former Federal Prosecutor)
SOT: I think there are some good reasons why a federal prosecution might

be the best forum in which to try the case first.
TRACK: THE FEDERAL CHARGES CARRY THE DEATH PENALTY FOR MUHAMMED, BUT BECAUSE HES ONLY 17, THEY WONT DISCUSS CHARGES AGAINST MALVO. MANY ANALYSTS BELIEVE IF FEDERAL PROSECUTORS DO HAND THE CASE OVER, IT WILL GO TO VIRGINIA, NOT MARYLAND.

(Super: Teri Okita/Reporting)

STANDUP: Virginias charges carry the death penalty for both suspects. In Maryland, even though most of the killings happened there, only Muhammed could face capital punishment, if convicted, because Malvo is a minor. Teri Okita, CBS News, Washington. ))

Today's quake was far from Sicily, where tremors over the last few days have brought Europe's largest and most active volcano, Mount Etna back to life.

(LOCATOR: QUEENS, NEW YORK)

Jam Master Jay--the man who helped propel the hip hop group Run-DMC into mainstream music was gunned down last night at a recording studio in Queens New York.
Police say the 37-year old whose real name was Jason Mizell was shot in the head...another man was shot in the leg.
20 years ago Jam Master Jay teamed up with Joseph "Run" Simmons and Daryl "DMC" McDaniels to form the group. He was the disc-jockey who would spin records back and forth on the turntable--scratching them in time under a needle. The sounds he created provided the backdrops for songs.
Run DMC hit its stride in the 80s with it's album "Raising Hell." It sold three million copies becoming the first album to go multi-platinum.
The band found a larger following when it teamed up with the Rock band Aerosmith to remake the song "Walk this way."
DMC made several comebacks in the 1990s and it had just released a greatest hits album this year.
One rap star said of DMC--"These are our Beatles."
This is the latest in a string of murders that have shocked the world of Rap. Tupac Shakur and Christopher wallace...also know as notorious , B.I.G were shot to death during the late 90's
Jam Master Jay was supposed to perform tonight before a cheering crowd at an NBA basketball game in Washington....instead his family is planning his funeral.

No criminal charges will be placed against an ABC agent accused of giving moonshine as a gag gift.
Special prosecutor Don Caldwell says there's not enough evidence to charge Agent Bev Whitmer.
Whitmer presented two game wardens with mason jars containing a clear liquid at a farewell dinner in Franklin County back in May.
At the time, he described the liquid as "water."
But the two wardens said it smelled and tasted like liquor.
They later dumped it out.
Caldwell says because the evidence was disposed of, it's impossible to prove what it was...
AND since A-B-C keeps no inventory of its seized moonshine, it's impossible to say ANY was taken by Agent Whitmer.

Whitmer is still employed by the A-B-C, but has been moved to the Patrick County office.
