The Foundation filed "a Chapter 11 re-organization petition" in U-S Bankruptcy Court yesterday.
As Keith Humphry reports the Foundation still owes millions of dollars to the bank, the architect who designed the memorial, and the construction company that built it.

The Bankruptcy petition was filed at the 11th hour, with two days of reckoning looming ahead.
The Foundation was due in court Tuesday to show cause why it could not pay Byron Dickson, the Architect.
Coleman Adams Construction had already won a 1-point-six million dollar judgment against the Foundation. That was 88 days ago.
Federal Bankruptcy law sets the clock back NINETY days. The petition filed today is retroactive, taking the matter back to where it stood two days BEFORE Coleman Adams won the judgment against the National D-Day Memorial Foundation.
Now Coleman Adams is on equal footing with Dickson and the bank.

Authorities investigating the Short Family murders say the man who provided information for a key search warrant has passed a polygraph test.

His statements to investigators were the basis for a search of the property where Bowman lived before leaving for Canada.

Captain Kimmy Nester says people need to realize that Lemons did the right thing by taking his suspicions to investigators... and that anyone who may have useful information in the case should step forward.

To the extent that investigators have been able to confirm Lemons' statements, they say the information has proven to be accurate.
While there was no "false floor" in Bowman's van as a search warrant affidavit indicated, authorities say substantial modifications had been made to the interior of the vehicle.
They say the term "false floor" may have been chosen by the officer taking the statement.... not Lemons.
Garrison Bowman has not been charged in the case. He denies any involvement in the Short family murders.

Attorney General Jerry Kilgore says he's confident that Virginian prosecutors will be able to secure the death penalty against the two sniper suspects.

Kilgore says the decision to try the suspects separately was based on where the strongest evidence against each defendant was found.
He says prosecutors have covered all their bases by charging both suspects with capital murder and terrorism.
The state's top attorney expects a number of legal challenges to the new anti-terrorism law, passed this winter in response to September 11th.
But he believes the law will ultimately be upheld.

More layoffs are on the way for United Airlines. The carrier plans to furlough 27-hundred more flight attendants in January.
United officials says the cuts were necessary because of a reduced flight schedule for next year.

This is the second weekend in a row that a pod of killer whales has been seen swimming past Seattle.
A member of the "Orca Network" believes the whales may be looking for wandering schools of salmon.
Overall concern remains for the general health of the Orca population in the Puget Sound.. but for today at least, these animals appear healthy and happy.
