The storm that passed through western Virginia early this morning left its mark on Bedford County.
No one was killed there, but several families, a church and at least one business all suffered significant losses.

150-Air Force Junior ROTC cadets from Franklin County, William Fleming and Monticello High Schools today participated in a Veteran's Day ceremony at the National D-Day memorial in Bedford. The event included performances of the National Anthem and God Bless America along with a flag-folding ceremony. The American Legion held seperate festivities at the Memorial this afternoon.

22-year-old Travis Jerome Murphy of Rocky Mount, North Carolina was discovered early Sunday in his room at the Travelodge on Main Street.
Authorities say Murphy had been seen earlier walking along Route 29, at the Greyhound bus station and at River Ridge Mall.
He checked into the Travelodge at 10:30 Saturday night and was found dead three hours later.
The regional homicide squad has been activated to investigate his murder.

James Kilgore appeared in a South Africa court- at the start of the extradition process-
Word is that he may agree to a deal- and receive the same sentence as four other S-L-A members -
Those four got six to eight year sentences last week.
Kilgore is wanted in connection with an un-exploded bomb found with his fingerprints on it and the death of a bank employee during a 1975 robbery.
Kilgore was arrested Friday in Cape Town where's he's lived under a fake name for five years.
He has been on the U-S most wanted list for nearly 27 years-

The latest BCS standings are out and while it's no surprise that Virginia Tech has dropped off the top 15 - it is somewhat surprising that Miami is still not number one.

Notre Dame is hanging around in the 7 spot, LSU - on the strength of that unlikely finish against Kentucky is now 13th and Penn State beats Virginia and replaces Tech in the 15 spot.

Ernest Wilford has been honored for his amazing day of receptions in that losing cause by earning Big East offensive player of the week honors. His 279 yards in receptions not only set a Tech school record, breaking the mark set by Ricky Scales 30 years ago, but it also broke the all-time Big East conference record. His touchdown grabs of 75, 34, 87 and 6 yards also tied the Big East mark, and his 8 catches were a career high.

The off-week comes at a good time for the Hokies.
Sorely missed middle linebacker Vegas Robinson has been cleared to return to practice, he, running back Kevin Jones and receiver Justin Hamilton are all listed as probable for the West Virginia game. Tech head athletic trainer Mike Goforth also tells us that Kevin Lewis has pectoral strain - he will have to have an MRI exam on that. And Floyd native Josh Spence is being treated for a concussion. As for DeAngelo Hall - his lower back problems that began two and a half weeks ago are not responding to treatment. He is a question mark for the West Virginia game.

Tech rover Michael Crawford has his open biopsy done yesterday. We won't know for several days if the test supports the earlier evidence of lymphoma found during a needle biopsy. Crawford plans to be back in classes this week.

24-year-old John Bryce is operating Blacksburg Brewing Company out of a warehouse in Christiansburg. The Richmond native is currently making test batches of four different beers. He expects to be selling kegs by the end of the month and has a long term goal of opening a brew pub in downtown Blacksburg.
