14- year- old Derek and 13- year- old Alex King accepted a plea bargain today. Under the deal, Derek will get eight years in prison and Alex will get seven. Last year, the boys father, Terry King, was beaten with a baseball bat before his house was set on fire. A judge initially threw out the boys convictions and ordered mediation because prosecutors used conflicting theories in two trials. In one, the boys were charged with murder and in another a family friend was charged. Today both Derek and Alex said they understood the deal before they were taken to prison.

Radford University joins Virginia Tech this week... It is also raising tuition.

The University's Board of Visitors approved a 250-dollar tuition increase, effective next Spring.
The school this year found out its losing three million dollars from state budget cuts, but, officials say the tuition increase will make up more than half of that.
The rest will come from the elimination of about 55-workers, through an early retirement program.
If necessary, the university will also furlough ALL employees for up to two days.
Officials say it could save the school about 300-thousand dolllars.

However, Lance Goff a walk-on from Wytheville suffered a possible torn ACL in his left knee yesterday. Goff did everything from kicking to quarterbacking in the Tech JV win over Fork Union. He will be evaluated later today and will miss the JV game with Hargrave.

Bart Bellairs and the VMI Keydets have received a commitment this week. Point guard Matt Coward from Hermitage High School just outside Richmond will play for the Keydets next season. Coward averaged 8.4 points and 3 assists per game last season. Hermitage is 44 and 8 the past two seasons. Coward was also recruited by Holy Cross, Wofford, and Hampton.

The Roanoke Express has acquired another player. Today the team picked up left winger Blair Stayzer from the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Stayzer is in his third season in the ECHL, and has tallied a goal and two assists in 12 games this year.
