A national group is issuing a warning tonight about a growing Thanksgiving tradition.
The National Turkey Federation says 20 percent of Americans will be deep frying their turkey this year.
While many find the practice is faster and tastier than roasting, it can also be dangerous.

His daughter, 14-year-old Jessica Lewis, was killed riding in a 15-passenger van last July. It was on the road in North Carolina carrying a church group when it overturned several times. Her family has been fighting to get the vehicles off the road ever since.

The National Transportation Safety Board's report issued today concludes the vans have an increased likelihood to rollover with higher occupancy and vehicle speed. The group says the vans should be further tested and given a rollover rating as well as utilize potentially helpful technological advances.

Erndt says he will once again lobby Virginia's General Assembly to get "Jessika's Cause" passed. The measure that would ban the use of 15-passenger vans failed by two votes earlier this year.

Roanoke County police have charged an aide at a high school with a sex crime.
23-year-old Anthony Moreno is accused of taking indecent liberties with a student.
The incident allegedly took place at Hidden Valley High School last week.

Last Friday night, someone blew up Kim Sydnor's mailbox with a pipe bomb.
The whole neighborhood heard the blast, but no one realized what had happened until the next morning, when pieces of the mailbox turned up all over.
No one was injured.
Investigators are offering a reward of up to 100-thousand dollars for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Gearbox Pedal cars have been found to contain high lead levels, so the company that makes them has recalled them.
Also the makers of Firestormer planes have pulled their toys off the shelves after receiving reports that some planes burst into pieces.
And Estes Industries ... who make some air powered rockets have recalled their toys after the rockets foam tips broke off exposing sharp edges.

The greatest toy dangers for young children comes from toys with small parts, balloons, small balls. They can cause choking.

Governor Mark Warner said today he expects the state will have to lay off even more workers as it tries to close the remaining BILLION dollar state budget deficit.
Virginia has already laid off 18-hundred workers, in addition to eliminating four-thousand vacant positions from the state payroll.
But Warner says more layoffs will be necessary because so much of the state budget is spent on its employees.

President Bush did the honors in a Rose Garden ceremony today. While petting the bird, named Katie, he mentioned she looked a little nervous. Harry Truman resurrected the Civil-War-era practice of pardoning a turkey -- and issued the first in a long line of reprieves for tom turkeys. As a result of Bush's action, Katie will live out her days at a petting farm in Herndon, Virginia.

The jury has reached a verdict in a civil suit brought by a Roanoke man who was shot by a city policeman.
After deliberating less than half an hour, the jury found for the defendant, Officer William Boucher (boo-SHAY).


Wilbert Wesley Lewis, the man he shot after a chase in December of 1999, had claimed Boucher's actions violated his civil rights.
Keith Humphry will have reaction from the two men, and the jury foreman, in just a few minutes on News-7 at 6.

It apparently did not take Lisa Marie Presley and actor Nicolas Cage long to decide they should not be married to one another.

Cage filed for divorce in Los Angeles citing irreconciliable differences.
The marriage lasted just three and a half months.
In a statement, Presley said she was sad about the divorce, but she added they shouldn't have been married in the first place.
She is the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.
She has two children from her first marriage.
Presley was also previously married a short time to Michael Jackson
Cage has a son from a previous relationship.
The marriage was his second.
