For some time Vaughan Furniture plants have been on and off furloughs with many employees working less than full weeks. Officials say this conversion will help provide steady full-time work for those still employed with the company. For the 245 people laid off about 55 jobs will be available at the new distribution center.

Fire authorities are still trying to determine what started a blaze that heavily damaged a Lynchburg apartment building this morning.

The fire at Walden Pond apartments was reported just after eight.
A police officer helped a badly burned resident escape the building. The man was flown to the U-V-A medical center where his name and condition have not been released.
The officer and two firefighters also suffered minor injuries.
The fire destroyed two upper story apartments and damaged four others.

Investigators say a teenage girl set her family's house on fire and left her relatives for dead last night.

Henry County authorities are looking for 15-year-old Jessica Dawn Hess.
She's charged with attempted capital murder, arson and grand larceny.

Deputies say she set fire to her grandparents' house as they slept, tying their bedroom door shut with a sheet.
A passing motorist saw the fire and firefighters woke the family and got them out. Her father was also inside, but all three got out safely.

It got a marginal rating.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety did the testing on several small and middize cars to see how the bumpers would hold up.
The Suzuki Aerio got a poor rating, while the Toyota Corolla was rated good.
Among midsize cars- a good rating went to the 2002 Audi A-4, The 2003 Honda Accord was rated acceptable.
