It took State Troopers nearly five hours to clear a series of multiple car accidents between Charlottesville and Staunton.

It took troopers more than five hours to clean up the mess.
Some of the vehicles were crushed in front, back, and in between tractor trailers.

State Troopers are also searching for a driver who killed a man on Interstate 81.
Officials say 68 year old Thomas Earl Thomas wandered away from a nursing home near Chilhowie.
Around 8:15 tonight, state police got reports that he was walking in the interstate in Smyth County.
By the time troopers got there Thomas had been struck and killed... the vehicle that hit him kept going.
Officers are looking for a large Ford pickup or SUV with a missing passenger side mirror or damage to the front passenger side.
It was last seen Northbound on I-81.
Call state police if you've seen it.

Light snow and sleet fell periodically throughout the area this morning and early afternoon. Accumulation was light, but slick roads did cause several accidents. State police say this green Jeep hit a patch of ice, ran off the road and rolled several times. The driver and passenger were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

When someone blew up Kim Sydnor's mailbox In Roanoke County last month, the postal service put up a 100-thousand dollar reward. Apparently it worked.
According to a search warrant affidavit filed in federal court, several people came forward. One says he saw a test run of the blast on videotape. Another gave investigators the name of a man who allegedly bragged about blowing up the mailbox.

Prosecutors say Burrow misrepresented the foundation's financial health when he applied for the loans.

Both sides rested their case late this afternoon.

The ceremony took place at Hidden Valley Country Club yesterday and Salem Civic Center president Carey Harveycutter takes home the award. Harveycutter has been the driving force behind bringing such prestigious events like the Stagg Bowl, the NCAA Division III men's basketball final four, and NCAA baseball to the city of Salem.

((The biggest pre-season wrestling event in the area has a new name and a new venue. The Titan Toughman was formerly known as the Salem Ironman Tournament. But not much has changed despite the different setting.
Dennis:
The field sports 7 Blue Ridge District teams, including the third place team in the state a year ago in Lord Botetourt, plus the fifth place finisher in Northside.
Dennis:
Travis: Perhaps the wrestler most excited to be here this weekend is William Byrd's Brad Argabright. The top ranked AA wrestler in Virginia won the state title two years ago, but last season broke his wrist and wrestled in just one tournament.

Wrestlers are competing in 14 weight classes this weekend. The competition continues Saturday morning at 10 am. In Roanoke County, Travis Wells, News 7 Sports.))

When you think of the south, You don't usually think of Polar Bears...

but two polar bears are now making a home at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro.
The two full grown males were rescued from a Mexican circus by animal rights activists.
North Carolina Zoo officials say the two are still recovering from diet deficiencies and other health problems.
Now the bears are enjoying the chilly waters of the zoo.
They are on public display beginning today. (------------)
