Washington and Lee Law Professor Roger Groot and a group of W&L students with the school's Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse have been asked to assist in the defense of 17 year-old John Lee Malvo. Groot says the group will assume a consulting role, but there are no specific plans to meet with the teenager. He adds this case will be unique because of the publicity it has attracted, and it will be the first test of the state's terrorism laws that went into effect this summer.

Burrow is charged with mail, bank and wire fraud for his efforts to secure state grants and bank loans to help build the memorial.

But former Roanoke banker Warner Dalhouse testified yesterday it's common practice for a non-profit to use bank loans to match state grants.
Dalhouse also says it's routine for those agencies to list undocumented pledges as collateral for those bank loans.
Former foundation chairman Bob Slaughter praised Burrow's efforts in getting the memorial built.
Slaughter says he would hire Burrow again.
