Judge George Jones of Chatham and his mother are under treatment for serious injuries they recevied in a head-on accident Friday. Jones is in guarded but stable condition at a Farmville hospital. We're told his wife is OK, but his mother Doris is in critical condition at UVA Medical Center.
State Police say a driver crossed the center line on route 60 in Cumberland County, right into the path of their car.

News of the accident quickly spread in Franklin and Pittsylvania County where Jones is a General District Judge for the 22nd judicial district. He's been on the bench for more than eight years, before that he was a Commonwealth's Attorney.

Four boys were killed yesterday after falling through the ice on Merrimack River in Massachusetts.

Police say a group of six boys fell into the water after they walked 25 feet out on the ice.
Two of the boys were quickly pulled from the river but the other four were trapped under the ice for at least 10 minutes.
The ice was said to be an inch or two thick. The temperature however was in the mid-40's.

A blood bank in Jacksonville, Florida fears some of its blood supply may be tainted with the West Nile Virus.
