The dogs were immediately taken from their owner and placed in the shelter. Since then, all of the dogs have been released and taken to animal care agencies, where they will receive further care and put up for adoption. Something that almost didn't happen.

The dogs' owner, 66-year-old Kermit Martin of Willis, pled guilty to nine-charges of animal cruelty yesterday in District Court.
He was fined 450-dollars.

There are more questions than answers tonight in a missing person's case from Pittsylvania County.
This morning, authorities announced remains found in Caswell County North Carolina are that of Patty Jo Pulley.

The 37 year old disappeared in May of 1999 when she left her home to go shopping in Danville.
There were no signs of her until this week when a passerby found her remains in a Caswell County creek bank.

Pulley's friends remember her as an energetic outgoing person.

It still has a long way to go, but the water level at Carvins Cove has climbed more than 16 feet since October.

The city's main reservoir now stands at 17- point-six feet below the spillway.
That 's well below the December average of seven- point- nine feet, but with more rain in the forecast the water level should continue to rise.
City officials have been considering the possibility of relaxing mandatory water restrictions, but for now, they're not saying when that might happen.

A Roanoke man charged with conspiring to launder money and send it to Iraq will be back in court next week.

Still wearing his blue Berglund Automotive work clothes, (Ma-Leek All-MOL-icky) Malik Almaliki was today arraigned in U.S. District Court. The Iraqi-born U.S. citizen was arrested at the dealership where he's a detailer yesterday. The government says Almaliki wired more than 130-thousand dollars to a company in Seattle, Washington for transmittal to Iraq.

The federal government is shelling out more than a half-million dollars to improve an area veterans home.
The Virginia Veterans Care Center in Roanoke will use the 585-thousand dollar grant to expand its Alzheimer's unit.
240 veterans live at the facility, the only state home for vets in the Commonwealth.

Those ringing Salvation Army kettle drives are a part of the holiday season, but this year not as much money is coming in.

The Salvation Army's collection bells will ring through Tuesday. Captain Erik Nickell says kettle drives at 31-locations in Roanoke and Salem area are down about 20-percent. He hopes people are generous during this last push. Nickell says they're estimating 130-thousand dollars of donations this year, past ones have been around 150-thousand.

He believes the lower numbers can be attributed to a late Thanksgiving and tough economic times.
