Authorities have postively indentified remains found in North Carolina as that of a missing Pittsylvania County woman.

Still wearing his blue Berglund Automotive work clothes, Malik Almaliki (ALL-MOLL-icky) today appeared in U.S. District Court. The Iraqi-born U.S. citizen was arrested at the delership yesterday where he's a detailer. The government says (All-Moll-icki) Almaliki wired more than 130-thousand dollars to a company in Seattle Washington for transmittal to Iraq. His attorney, David Nixon, says (Al-Moll-icky) Almaliki was simply sending money home to family and that he denies the charges. A detention hearing is scheduled for Monday.

Public education was the big winner today as the governor rolled out his plan for closing a one-point-two billion dollar shortfall.

Warner's budget calls for increasing aid to elementary and secondary education by 65-million dollars.
That money would come from lottery profits and the state's Literary Fund.
The governor proposed freezing basic health services for the needy, including nursing home and hospital reimbursements and prescription drugs.

Young and old picked up a tree one by one and hurled them down the main road.
The idea is to see who can throw the tree the farthest.
This actually started out of necessity.
Tractors could not get to the trees last year because the land was too wet, so people had to throw their Christmas Trees over a big ditch.
Not many rules to this competition.
The only qualifications is the tree thrower must wear clogs, the traditional Dutch Wooden shoes.
A 35 year old tree grower Klaas Sander won hurling a three over 33 feet. He won a decorated milk can.
