Two National Guard units in Virginia may soon be called to active duty.
The 189th Engineer Company located in Big Stone Gap and the 222nd Quartermaster
Detachment based in Staunton have been alerted for possible active federal service.
The mobilization would affect about 120 Virginia soldiers, who would go on active duty for at least one year.
The soldiers will undergo pre-mobilization processing at their home armories and Fort Pickett in early
January.
The Staunton and Big Stone Gap units are making preparations in case they are called, but an alert does NOT mean the units will be mobilized.

Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church bought 24 bronze and copper bells from a company in Holland.
The bells will replace the old electronic chimes in the church's steeple.
They'll ring each day at 9 A-M, noon, 3, 6 and 9 P-M.
Thrasher Memorial is the only area church with real bells in its tower.
It will be about a month before they're installed ... but the congregation will get a sample of their sounds at tomorrow's New Year's Eve service.
