Some call it a crime fighting tool, others an invasion of privacy.
Under the law that went into effect yesterday, anyone arrested and charged in Virginia with a crime such as murder, rape, assault or burglary must give police a D-N-A sample.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Richmond/November;]

The sample will be used to enter the person's D-N-A profile into the state's genetic database, where it will be compared with evidence gathered at crime scenes.
If the person is acquitted or the charge is dismissed in court, the person's genetic profile will be deleted from the database.

Corporate disappointments and fears of war in Iraq helped to send the markets reeling for a third consecutive year something that Wall Street hasn t seen, since the 1939-to-1941 period.
For 2002, the Nasdaq was the biggest loser of the major indexes -- down 32-percent. The S&P 500 comes in as the 2nd biggest loser, giving back 23-percent, and the Dow has fallen 17 percent.
One sector that may have room to fly in the new year is aerospace. The industry, along with commercial airlines, ALSO had a turbulent air. But in 2002, European aerospace company Airbus, steadily took market share away from its U-S competitor Boeing. Now Airbus is in a position to sell more planes than its archival -- for the first time ever.
Airbus had fewer order cancellations during the year, and is likely to have won the battle for NET orders. It's scheduled to deliver more planes than Boeing in 2003-- with an estimated 300 Airbus jets, versus 285 for BOEING, to roll off the production lines. Merrill Lynch says "Airbus is clearly weathering the downturn better.
