An explosion in a West Virginia mine killed three people and injured three others today.

The miners were digging an airshaft about a thousand feet underground at the McElroy Mining Company in Cameron, West Virginia when the explosion occured.
It's not clear what caused the blast, but officials are investigating to find out if there was a buildup of methane gas.

A strong earthquake last night killed at least 23 people in Mexico. Officials believe that number is likely to rise after the 7-point-six magnitude quake rocked the city of Colima on the Pacific Coast.
Rescue workers struggled through the night to pull victims out of collapsed structures.

A 26-year old Lexington man pled guilty today to killing a man in the parking lot of Roanoke's Tower's Mall last year.

Kip Lamont Walker pled guilty in the first- degree murder and robbery of Ronald Steven Clark. The Commonwealth's Attorney agreed not to ask for more than 25 years in prison, if he'll testify against his co-defendant.

Walker and Christopher Riley have both admitted their involvement in the shooting, but each claims the other was the trigger man. Under Virginia law, they're equally responsible.

This time R and B singer R-Kelly is under arrest in Florida on Child pornography charges-
Kelly was arrested at a Miami area hotel this morning and taken to county jail- He is now out on bond.
The Grammy winning artist has been awaiting trial on 21 counts of child pornography in Chicago.
Those charges stem from a videotape authorities say shows him having sex with a 13-year old.
In this latest arrest Sheriff's officials say they confiscated photos showing Kelly having sex with a female under 18.
Kelly is known for his hits "I Believe I can fly" and "Bump n Grind."

Southside lawmakers are fighting a bill they say could hurt one of Martinsville's top tourist attractions.

The Senate today voted on a bill that would consolidate the Virginia Museum of Natural History and Richmond's Science Museum of Virginia.
A commission on government efficiency, headed by former Governor Doug Wilder, recommended merging the two museums to save money.

When the Rescue Mission opened its health care center for the homeless it had no idea just how great the need would be for its services.
In the past six months, the center has given more than 400 patients 170-thousand dollars worth of free care.

Since the title game J.J. has watched his school retire his number and lift his name to the rafters. Life after Redick has been a learning experience for his former teammates. While Redick and his former team are miles a part these days, they still have a great deal in common on the court. The Knights have not only been getting together on a regular basis to watch J.J. on TV, but coach Hicks has attended a few Duke practices and he has come back to Roanoke with a full note pad. Redick, who set several Virginia high school records in the state tournament has already broken Duke's record for points in a game by a freshman. His national exposure continues to grow but he always has time for an encouraging word for his Cave Spring Knights in their first season without him. ((:))
