Plows from the Virginia Department of Transportation stayed busy on Bent Mountain. Even after the storm had passed, the snow continued to swirl across route 221.
Residents were able to get out and gas up... or find a gallon of milk at the Wonder Mart... Those who choose to live on Bent Mountain are familiar with challenging conditions.

Two military choppers crash in Texas, killing all four Marine Corps reservists on board.

A witness says he saw two huge fireballs as a pair of military choppers went down late yesterday.
The wreckage of one chopper ended up at the entrance to an R-V park.
A man who lives there says he could tell from the fiery crash the crew did not have a chance, and he says there was no way to help them.
Other witnesses said they heard a loud boom.
The Marines were helping the U-S Border patrol in the fight against drug trafficking.

The Golden Arches have fallen on hard times.
For the first time in its history, McDonalds's recorded a quarterly loss.
The Fast Food giant lost 343 MILLION dollars last quarter.
As a result, McDonald's say it will close a total of 600 restaurants this year. It has not announced which locations will close.

Her publicist says Carter collapsed at her Beverly Hills home and was found by her 13-year-old adopted son.

In the eighties Carter starred in the hit comedy, Gimme a Break! And received two Emmy nominations for her role as the sassy housekeeper. But she prided herself on her range as a performer, and when the show ended Carter went back to musicals and drama.

Carter collapsed in her Beverly Hills home Thursday, only 54 years old.

For years Nell Carter suffered from diabetes, and in 1992 she underwent brain surgery to remove an aneurysm. But she recovered and continued to perform. And when she died, Carter was in rehearsals at the Long Beach theater, for the musical version of Raisin in the Sun.

Demolition crews are tearing down the Family Worship Center building on the corner of Jefferson Street and Albemarle Avenue. In the next few months, construction will proceed on an orthopedic and Ear Nose and Throat outpatient surgery clinic in place of the church. That facility is expected to be up and running by the end of this year.
