It all started when a gunman took a postal worker hostage in a mail truck, led police on a high speed chase, and then remained holed up at an intersection for hours.
Tonight the standoff is over. The postal worker is safe and the gunman is in custody.

A former nurse at Montgomery Regional Hospital nurse accused of inappropriately touching a patient may soon get his job back. William McClanahan Junior was convicted of sexual battery last March in District Court.

McClanahan appealed the conviction in Circuit Court, and today he reached an agreement to enter an alford plea to ASSAULT and battery.
He does NOT admit guilt, but he acknowledges the state has enough evidence to convict him.

All probability this is not going to work out. But you never know. And were going to take it seriously.
The clerk says a young pregnant woman passed through her checkout line and said: This is serious. I was kidnapped. Call the authorities when I leave. When an older man joined her in line and asked what they were talking about, she told him: She said you kidnapped her. And when the clerk made a joke about it, the man laughed and said: Yeah, I guess I kidnapped her.

The clerk says she intended to call police immediately but got distracted and forgot until news reports jogged her memory.

No one has seen Laci Peterson since Christmas Eve, when her husband Scott says she went out to walk the dog.

Scott says he was fishing a couple hours away, but police havent found anyone to verify that. And it later came out that he was having an affair with a woman who didnt know Scott was married.

A North Carolina healthcare company wants to buy Patrick County's only hospital.
This week, the board of R. J. Reynolds- Patrick County Memorial voted to accept the letter of intent from Agemark Incorporated.

The hospital filed for bankruptcy protection in 1999, after years of mounting losses.
Under the purchase agreement, the new owners would maintain operations for at least five years.

The Martinsville Speedway is branching out in a big way later this spring.

Speedway president Clay Campbell to build a new 6-lane of a new, six-lane entrance to the facility that is much needed to handle not only race traffic, but also pedestrians. The track also is finally moving the railroad tracks that parallel the speedway's back stretch to allow for future expansion, and the addition of 2,000 high-rise seats. Work on the new entrance and seats will begin immediately after the running of the Virginia 500 on April 13. The track's new capacity will be 88,000.

That is because Kylie the prairie dog died last spring.
Zoo Officials say they could not find a replacement.
For the last four years, Kylie predicted how much longer winter would be based on whether she saw her shadow or not.

Seventeen international teams have gathered in the French Alps to take part in an ice sculpting contest.
Artists used spades, shovels, even barbed wire and chain saws to shape several tons of snow and ice. After the competition finished, visitors enjoyed a nocturnal exhibition of all the giant sculptures sparkling in the night sky and illuminated by colored floodlights.
