Federal authorities have identified a group of counterfeiters in the Roanoke area. About a dozen people are under arrest, with more arrests expected. First Assistant U-S Attorney Morgan Scott says it's less a counterfeiting "RING" than what he calls "a loose confederation of individuals with a common interest." Scott says the group would buy a software package, make up a company name, a bank name and some phony routing numbers and then write bogus checks. Most were for less than a thousand dollars, though Scott says they total 100-thousand dollars.
