Meanwhile, students in Roanoke may now play ball on a snow day. The Superintendent of Schools is moving forward with a plan to change a blanket cancellation policy when it comes to weather and after school activities.

The Roanoke County Supervisors have approved ten additional positions for the county's fire and rescue department.

The decision will bring career personnel to Catawba, and add to the staffing at Hollins.

Butch Church argued that Catawba deserved a shorter response time than crews based at Mason's Cove are able to deliver.
And Richard Flora said the Hollins station needs help because it's now the busiest in the county.

Tougher seatbelt laws are still strapped in at the General Assembly.

The House Transportation Committee voted 11 to 10 today to make failure to wear a seat belt a primary offense.
That means the police can stop and ticket you for not buckling up.
Currently, they can only do that if you're pulled over for something else.
The primary seat belt law had been defeated by the same committee earlier in the session.
The bill also increases the penalty for failure to wear a seat belt.
The legislation now goes to the floor of the House of Delegates for a vote.

The A-T-F also credits her with providing information that led to Poindexter's arrest last month in Louisville.

Norfolk Southern investigators are trying to figure out what caused a train derailment in Pulaski County.

It happened around three-thirty this morning near the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. The train was carrying limestone and grain, when 13-cars and three locomotives fell off the track. Haz-mat crews were called to clean up a small oil leak, but officials say overall the accident did NOT cause any serious health concerns. The two people operating the train were slightly hurt and taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released. Officials say they have no reason to believe the derailment was a terrorist attack.

GW head coach Wayne Shelton and his girls could clinch the Western Valley district outright with a win last night. And they would get busy in a hurry - Tavia Clemendor makes the entry pass to Kurtise Wilkes who cuts nicely to the hoop and drops in two. The freshman would then return the favor to the junior as Wilkes feeds Clemendor for a similar basket. PH had to withstand the Eagle pressure all night and nothing was easy - but Rosa Kuilan muscles this one in.

One of those rookies - Jack Sprague caused a five car accident during Cup practice yesterday morning as the cars were heading into turn one. He ran into Steve Park and Mike Skinner and in effect blocked the track for everyone else. Jeff Burton and Elliott Sadler ran right into the mess. Burton, Sadler and Skinner all had to go to back-up cars. That means they will be in the back of the field for Thursday's Twin qualifiers. No one was injured in the wreck.
