With the threat of winter weather, the City of Roanoke was ready filling up its trucks with salt, sand, and chemicals.
While the city was getting prepared for when the winter mix starts to stick, many people headed to the video store to pick up a flick. Some video stores in the area saw movies flying off the shelves and deep lines, as people get prepared for a few days indoors.

More than 27-hundred international students attended a mandatory meeting to discuss new security measures enacted since September 11th.
The students learned details regarding a new federal database called the "Student and Exchange Visitor Information System" or (SEE-vihs) SEVIS.
Any person in the U.S. on a student visa must now have a variety of information entered into that database including name, date of birth, and address here and abroad.

Investigators say they've learned two more of the space shuttle's control jets kept firing in the final minutes as "Columbia" tried to maintain control. Officials say that means at least four jets were trying unsuccessfully to keep the shuttle on course. The information came from the final 32- seconds of ragged data sent by the shuttle.

Authorities say a Texas man took his own life, after apparently killing five people including his three young daughters.

Police went to the house outside Houston last night as part of a missing person investigation. They say the man opened fire, hitting one officer. Eight hours later, police were able to enter the home. Inside they found six people dead including the gunman who they believe shot himself-- after killing his wife, his girlfriend and three young daughters. Police say a diary in the house indicates the man shot the victims Monday.

For the first time since 19-37, Goodyear won't pay a dividend. That news sent the company's stock to a 52 week low. The Keydets trailed Western by ten in the second half, but Radee Skipworth led a late charge. First he got the friendly roll on the foul line jumper for two of his 15 points.
Then Skipworth went behind the defense for the jami-jam along the baseline and the Keydets had fought their way back.
The game was tied at 58 with time winding down, when Western Carolina's Emre Atsur found the range from the corner.

From the court to the pool, where the Valley was well represented in this weekend's state high school meet in Norfolk.
Tabb High School took home the title in the Boys Double A ranks followed by Jamestown, Hidden Valley and Blacksburg.
Tabb also won the hardware in the girls division, while William Byrd finished second.

Cave Spring is the Blue Ridge District volleyball champion. This afternoon, the Knights made short work of Salem.

Cave Spring expected to be here, but Salem had to pull an upset last night to reach the final.
The Knights took the first game by a count of 15 to 8.
In game two, Salem led 8 to 6 when Terry Campbell served up the floater. Avelyn Austin is unable to handle it and Salem led 9-6.
Cave Spring answers though setting up Sarah Lyon for the spike just inside the line. Cave Spring went on to win the game 15 to 10, taking the match two games to none.

Junior will go for the Speedweeks sweep tomorrow, a feat that has never been accomplished.
Virginia native Stacy Compton had a rough day, blowing a tire, smacking the wall, and then watching his ride go up in flames. But Stacy was able to escape serious injury.
Earnhardt got out front just past the halfway point and stayed there.
With just two laps to go, Jimmy Vasser got turned around, clipping Jason Keller, and then Mike McLaughlin T-boned Vasser in the door. That allowed the race to finish under the yellow, and no one needed to show Junior the way to victory lane. He's been there plenty of times before.
