A train hit a car in Salem this afternoon, sending one person to the hospital.

The accident happened at a crossing on Mill Lane in the west end of the city.
The driver told police that she failed to see the gate at the crossing and tried to stop.
But the train clipped the side of her car.
Officials have not released her name, but they say she is a 44-year-old woman from Roanoke.

An explosion in the Philippines kills at least nineteen people including four Americans- One was a missionary based out of Richmond.

59-year old William Hyde was meeting other missionaries at the airport when the blast happened.
A backpack exploded- the blast tore through a shelter just outside the arrival terminal at the airport in (Da-voo) Davao.
Scores of people were in the shetler at the time escaping a downpour The violence comes after other extremist attacks in the south- where four rebel groups are seeking an Islamic state.
The Philippino people are mostly Roman Catholic.

The soldiers and marines are waiting for word from the commander-in chief. And so far, he's holding firm. Bush: For the sake of the American people, Saddam Hussein will be disarmed. Chris Lawrence: But so far, disarmed slowly piece by piece. Iraq has destroyed three more Al-Samoud 2 missiles... with close to a hundred to go. In Iraq Tuesday, a TV announcer read a letter from Saddam, in which he accused the U-S of trying to turn Arabs into slaves and promised that Iraq will defeat any invaders. The U-S military continues to mobilize as more B-52 bombers land in Britain ...within striking distance of Iraq. And officials havent given up on a plan to use Turkey as a base of deployment. They're still dangling the promise of a multi-BILLION dollar package of aid. Robert Pearson, U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Without an agreement there is no financial package.
As the weeks stretch out for U.S. troops in Kuwait ...their future could be decided in New York ..where Hans Blix addresses a divided U-N security council Friday. Secretary General Kofi Annan is praising Iraqs efforts and Russia says it wont support any vote that leads to war. The phone company Ntelos is filing for bankruptcy protection.
Ntelos provides service in parts of Virginia and West Virginia as well as in Ohio, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
The company says it will provide service to all of its customers during reorganization.
As for employees, the company says they'll be paid as usual.
In other business news, it was a bad day for many investors in the stock markets.
