Firefighters were called to Caru Apartments located at 36th and Donna Streets around 3:45. A fire that had started in a basement apartment caused the whole building to fill with smoke. Residents were forced to evacuate. No one was injured. Authorities are still investigating. They say no one was in the basement apartment at the time of the blaze.

The Botetourt County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting involving the wife of a federal marshal.
It happened around ten Wednesday morning on Beachview Lane in the Rainbow Forest subdivision.
Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle says deputies responded to a report that a woman walked into her home, found a burglar and was then shot.
The intruder was described as a white male wearing a green shirt, blue jeans and a black mask.
The victim is recovering from a single gunshot wound.
Her name is not being released at this time.
Investigators say they found the gun at the scene.

A chemical spill had part of Interstate 77 shut down for more than 10 hours yesterday.

It happened at mile-marker-43, north of Wytheville. Police say a tractor-trailer overturned, spilling ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. The spill was so dangerous, police shut-down both sides of the interstate, and told workers at a nearby training center to evacuate. The driver of the truck, was not seriously hurt, but he was cited for reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control.

An arrest has been made in a Carroll County shooting.
Authorities say the body of Larry Ralph King was found shortly before seven Wednesday morning at a residence in Cana.
He had apparently been shot in the chest.
A tracking dog led deputies to a mobile home where they found 29 year old Lee Howard Wilmoth.
He faces charges including first degree murder and he is being held without bond in the New River Valley Regional jail.

A former Bedford County youth pastor is arrested for sexual misconduct involving an underage girl.

24-year-old Courtney Lee DeLong was arrested last October after a 13-year-old girl told authorities she had sex with him on two occasions.

The girl was part of DeLong's youth group at Flint Hill Baptist Church.. the church was not aware of the incidents.
DeLong pleaded guilty to three felony counts yesterday.
He faces up to twenty years in prison.
