The bus involved in the accident was one of three charter busses transporting the students. In all-- about 20 kids were treated for minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises. And, while the students involved in the crash never made it to the museum, at least one tried to put a positive spin on the experience.

Authorities in Giles County pulled a body from the New River this afternoon.
An officer with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says the body was found about a mile upriver from the bridge near the Celanese Plant.
Investigators are waiting for the medical examiner to positively identify the body.

A plan to sell beer and wine at more Civic Center events has drawn strong opposition, but a state hearing officer has sided with the city of Roanoke.
Today, he issued a decision granting the city a new ABC license.

The civic center currently sells beer at professional sporting events, and officials argued that alcohol sales at concerts and other events would make the facility more attractive to patrons and promoters.
Opponents criticized the civic center's track record, and its ability to control alcohol sales in the future.

He said that civic center management and staff have developed reasonable procedures to ensure that alcoholic beverages will be available in a controlled environment.

R-J Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital filed for Chapter 11 protection in 19-99 with tremendous losses and debts. Today in a Danville Bankruptcy Court, a judge entered a final decree to release them from the re-organization plan. But the hospital's attorney says they will file different Chapter 11 paperwork along with a motion to sell the facility in the near future. Earlier this year, the company AgeMark signed a letter of intent to purchase the ailing hospital. The hospital's attorney says bankruptcy protection helps the purchases of assets by being free and clear.

The ninth ranked Roanoke men's lacrosse team stepped out of the ODAC yesterday and battled the nation's third rated team in Whittier out of California.

Roanoke goalie Tim Morse is playing like an All-American and he would be tested, Whittier is averaging almost 20 goals a game.
The Maroons Joe Weeren (weer-en) is gonna beat the defender and score on this shot in the second quarter. He led Roanoke with 6 goals.
Andy Bonasera could be Roanoke's only four time All-American. He scoops up the loose ball in front of the crease and finds the back of the net. Roanoke led at the half and Bonasera had 4 goals. Morse would face a barrage of shots, but came up big. Here making the save look easy on the 10 yard crank.

But Whittier's offense got to many opportunities in close and the Poets edge the Maroons 19-to-14.

This afternoon Roanoke's Jason Jaffray was named to the ECHL's all-rookie team. The 21 year old has 83 points coming on 33 goals and 40 assists. He leads all rookies in the ECHL in scoring, and 7th overall in the entire league.

An Iowa woman got the best birthday present she could ask for- her dog missing for seven months came home.

Betty Jordt is a widow in rural Westfield, Iowa- She was smiling on her 83rd birthday.
Her dog, "Taffy" returned home after he was missing for seven months.
Jordt was heart-broken when Taffy ran off.
For months she placed ads in the newspaper, but no sign of Taffy.
