Tonight U-S forces are occupying a part of Baghdad's airport.
That puts troops fewer than ten miles from the seat of Saddam Hussein's government.

The fourth Infantry division is finally on the move. Troops began unloading equipment and supplies today.

The division's gear left Fort Hood, Texas more than two months ago.
30- cargo ships have been waiting to unload because Turkey refused to allow U-S troops to stage along the border.

For now, five thousand troops AND Apache attack helicopters are the first off.
The cargo ships are strategically loaded so that lead attack equipment can be unloaded and join the fighting even before the rest of the division is ready.

With 200 high tech tanks, the fourth infantry is one of the most modern fighting forces in the military.
That has some worried that the wait at sea could have caused water damage and corrosion to vital equipment.
It could be two weeks before the entire division is ready, but when it is, there will be 30-thousand more troops in the Persian Gulf region.

Fairfield's Bea Maurer (Maugh-er) Incorporated says employees are working extra hours to meet the need for Base-X military shelters. The company's rapid deployment portable shelters become active military hospitals and command centers. Even though BMI prepared for combat with Iraq by increasing inventory and production, officials say demand has been so high that they're shipping many shelters each week directly to military units in the Middle East and elsewhere.

Doctors operated today on Jessica's back, and will do surgery tomorrow on her broken legs.
Today more video was released of the rescue where special ops teams rushed inside a hospital and whisked Jessica away.
Reports are now that Jessica shot at the Iraqis who ambushed her unit until she ran out of ammunition.
Jessica is apparently not aware of the media attention her rescue has received. She asked her brother if the story of her capture made the hometown paper in Palestine, West Virginia.

Workers will then remove the existing bridge beam.

Meantime, crews continue to cleanup an earlier accident on the northbound side of 581.
A tractor trailer overturned this afternoon as the driver was getting onto the highway from Orange Avenue.
The accident closed several lanes and caused a major backup on the interstate and the streets around it.
Tonight, workers came in and unloaded the 40-thousand pounds of dog food so the tractor trailer could be righted.
The State Police expect the on-ramp from Orange Avenue east to 581 north to be closed the entire night.

New jobs are being announced in Danville. Columbia Flooring says it will add a third shift at its plant and hire 50-workers. The company is investing one-point-six-million dollars in expanding its hardware floor manufacturing operations. Columbia already employs 159-people. The company is a division of Columbia Forest Products, North America's largest manufacturer of hardwood plywood and veneer.

More workers could be in line for time off instead of overtime pay.
A House panel approved the bill to let workers choose paid time off or overtime pay, both at a rate of time-and-a-half.
Republicans say it would give flexibility to employers and their workers, who are increasingly juggling demands of career and family.
Democrats and labor unions charge the bill will mean less money for workers and longer hours.
House leaders hope to put it to a floor vote by early May.

Now scientists have arrived in Southern China where the outbreak of SARS is the worst.

A medical examiner identified the body as 50-year-old John Wagner. Wagner and his friend 36-year-old Ty Hodges disappeared after the boat they were fishing in capsized. Smoke started pouring out of the Days Inn on Orange Avenue around 9 o'clock this morning. The fire started in a storage room that was filled with rolls of carpeting. Nobody was injured, and there is no word on what caused the fire.

The Express ran into a buzz saw last night in a 7-to-2 loss to the Greensboro Generals in the first game of their best of five ECHL playoff series.

Freshmen at Lynchburg's E.C. Glass High School will have to endure a lot of construction headaches over the next three years.. but they'll also be the first class to graduate from a fully-renovated facility.
