44 pilots graduated today from a federal law enforcement training course. They are now sworn in as federal flight deck officers which means they can legally carry a gun on a flight.
To pass the course the pilots had to go through a week of classes, tests, drills and target practice.
The pilots don't always have to carry a gun, but when they do they have to inform both the airlines and the flight crew.
Passengers however will not be informed if the pilot is armed.
Additional pilots are expected to complete their training in the coming weeks.
