Fire broke out in the oldest section of the church yesterday afternoon. Officials say that's the same area that caught fire earlier this month. It took firefighters more than two hours to put out yesterday's blaze, but officials say it may be some time before they can determine what started it, or if the fires are connected. Residents, however, are already calling it suspicious.

Organized prayer at the start of V-M-I's evening meal is STILL un-Constitutional, according to a federal appeals court.

[VO-NAT]
[SUPER=03-Lexington/2001]

The ruling upholds last year's injunction against Virginia Military Institute and its Superintendent. General Josiah Bunting reinstated the "supper prayer" in 1995 to "build solidarity and bring the corps together as a family." "In this context" though, the Court of Appeals said, "V-M-I's cadets are plainly coerced into participating in a religious exercise." General Bunting had said the prayer was voluntary and cadets were free not to take part.
But a footnote to the 28-page published opinion said religious objectors run the risk of alienating themselves from the V-M-I community by not participating.
