In fact, the World Health Organization says human waste may be a more important method of spreading the infection than originally thought. The virus can live in diarrhea for at least four days.
Officials believe this may explain why leaky sewage pipes may have been a source of infection for an outbreak at a Hong Kong apartment complex.
Other studies have also found that the SARS virus can live on chilled surfaces like a refrigerator for as long as four days.
SARS has killed at 449 people and sickened more than 63-hundred world wide.
