In a 300,000 dollar ad campaign the Natural Resources Defense Council and the

get at least 40 miles per gallon.

But automakers say they are producing vehicles with the future in mind.
we've improved the efficiency of our vehicles model by model engine by engine
year by year.
Honda and Toyota have already put two hybrid vehicles on the road and two US
makers Ford and Saturn will both introduce hybrid SUV's in the next model year.
--STANDUP--
The EPA estimates in 2002 the US fuel economy hit a 22 year low. The combined
average for all classes of vehicles was 20.4 miles to the gallon.
While owners of SUV's do want more efficient vehicles they say there's a more
important issue advocacy groups should spend their time and money.
