Earlier today the A-C-C voted to offer invitations to Miami, Syracuse and Boston College. The vote was 8-to-1. This means that Tech's only hope is that one of those schools - likely Syracuse turns the invitation down - or that the Big East stays together. That latter is what Frank Beamer is hoping to make happen at the Big East meetings this weekend.

Jean, county leaders are surprised and maybe a little disappointed but they're not publicly saying that right now.

They do point out that Wayne Sterling had no contract with the county however he did informally agree to stay for at least three years.
His main purpose was to help turn around the Henry County economy.

Sterling became the CEO of Henry County's Office of Commerce eighteen months ago.
During that time, he brought six expansions and new companies to the Martinsville Henry County area.
So far about half of the 12-hundred jobs that were pledged have materialized.
County leaders say Sterling was worth every penny even though his 200-thousand dollar salary caused quite a commotion when he was hired.

Hall says there are several economic projects in the works and that the two other staff members will continue to work on them.

At least 24 people are dead after simultaneous terrorist attacks in downtown Casablanca.

Four separate bombs ripped through the Moroccon city at about 10 p.m. local time killing 24 and wounding even more. At least three of those were car bombs. The Belgian Consulate, a Spanish social club and a Jewish nightclub were among the targets. A U-S State Department spokeswoman says one of the attacks took place near a synagogue and no American facilities were targeted. Moroccon news outlets report three people have been arrested.

A body was discovered today in Pulaski. Authorities say a hunter found a man's body around 10-45 this morning in a remote part of town, on the west side of Draper Mountain. The service honored Lieutenant Colonel William Watkins of South Boston and his pilot Captain Eric Das.

The wing commander said the men were looking down on the service with smiles on their faces.

They were later stopped on Timber Ridge Road.

After the overdose of a local teenager and a year of investigating, Craig County's sheriff says the drug trade has suffered a big hit.

State police and deputies from three counties started rounding up 25 people this morning.
The charges range from possessing and dealing drugs to child neglect.
Investigators say confidential informants and undercover agents bought heroin, crack cocaine, oxycontin, marijuana and prescription drugs from the defendants.
They started their work a year ago, after a local 19-year-old died of a drug overdose.
They say the young man's death motivated people to turn in drug dealers.

The Hokies got the new they were expecting, but really didn't want to hear this afternoon as the ACC's presidents and chancellors voted to offer invitations to join the conference to Miami, Syracuse and Boston College. The vote was 8-to-1 as a proposal submitted by the Virginia Cavaliers to include the Hokies fell short of the necessary seven votes.
There is no guarantee that all three, especially Syracuse will accept the invitation, but it's clear that Tech's best bet now is to keep the Big East intact.

Christiansburg's Dari Cupp sang the national anthem tonight and then things got really interesting. Bill Lester, the first black to win a pole in a major NASCAR event since Wendell Scott saw his chances for the win go up in smoke when he lost control early in the race. Veteran Ted Musgrave in the number one truck would finish first for his 11 career win.

The Scott Robertson Memorial junior golf event is celebrating its 20th anniverary this weekend. In it's infancy the event couldn't even attract a handful of top players, much less two or three local girls. But Steve Mason says - my have times changed.

((Phillip Frances is not your typical eighth grader. He began playing a full slate of golf tournaments at 4 years of age, has already played in 250 tournaments and 22 national championships on his way to becoming the nations number one 14 year old golfer. ((:)) ((STEVE MASON:)) ((:))
The nations number one 18 and under female player, 16 year old Paula Creamer produced an average driving distance at last week's LPGA event was 269 yards, which, for an entire season, would rank her in the top ten on the pro tour. Paula attributes added strength and power in the weight room, a necessary component for juniors in this day and age. ((:))
John City Tennessee native Cindy Phillips is getting her edge on the links by being home schooled. The flexible schedule enables her to play half a dozen more tournaments than if she was still in high school and she is on the course by noon everyday. ((:))
