An accident tonight in Roanoke County sent several people to the hospital and shut down Route 220 for nearly forty five minutes.

The accident happened on Route 220 near Starlight Lane around 9:10.
Officers say two vehicles were heading southbound, one was heading north.
Investigators would not release any other details but we do know one car rolled over.
Four people were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, some with apparently serious injuries.
Southbound 220 re-opened around ten, northbound re-opened fifteen minutes later.

A 17 year old is under arrest after allegedly taking a gun to Lord Botetourt High School.
Deputies say it happened yesterday evening after school hours.
Students then reported seeing the student on school grounds this morning.
That prompted a lockdown.
The suspect was arrested a short time later several hundred yards away from the school.
He did not have a gun at the time, but one was found at the house where he stayed last night.

State run radio reports more than 24 hundred are injured.
The quake's epicenter was located about 40 miles east of Algiers.

The quake was followed by at least three aftershocks. A quake in the same region in 1980 killed hundreds.

V-DOT officials say a drainage pipe underneath the road failed, leaving the highway impassable.

Mazzola shakes, shimmies, and twirls with women more than half her age- she says she's even ready to go public with her new found talent. Mazzola says what's most rewarding to her is that this is keeping her active and she has even lost a few pounds. Mazzola also picked-up the art of sewing. She put her whole costume together by herself.

Virginia Tech's baseball team is well represented in the All Big East selections released today. Pitcher Matt Dalton was a first team selection as was catcher Wyatt Toregas and third baseman Chris Stanton. Spencer Harris was a third team choice at short stop.

Tech second baseman Marc Tugwell was named shares Big East player of the year awards with West Virginia outfielder Jarod Rhine. Tugwell led the league in hits, steals, total bases and batting average which was .411.

In high school tennis, Patrick Henry's Brock Newton won the Northwest Region individual singles title today, winning 6-3, 6-2 over an Albemarle player. Newton and Tyler Early teamed to win their third straight region doubles title also. They will play in the state doubles tournament June sixth in Richmond. Newton will play in the singles tourney at the same time.

Included in that bunch, Jimmie Johnson's winning team. His crew chief was fined one-thousand dollars for an unapproved air directional device. It was found during prerace inspection.

The crew chief for Sterling Marlin was fined ten-thousand dollars for an improperly attached weight that was discovered during prequalifying inspection. NASCAR also confiscated the engine of Dale Jarret's team after it determined that switching motors was not warranted.

Of course many people tried just that today.
