An accident in Roanoke County left a young woman dead and shut down Route 220 for nearly forty five minutes.

The accident happened on Route 220 near Starlight Lane around 9:10 last night.
Officers say a car headed northbound lost control and crossed the median, striking two vehicles heading southbound.

Four people were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
19 year old Tamika Helms, a passenger in one of the southbound vehicles, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Walton is on death row for robbing and killing three neighbors in Danville back in 1996.
An April 30th mental health evaluation by the Department of Corrections found that Walton ``appears to be'' severely mentally retarded.''
But, a spokeswoman for Attorney General Jerry Kilgore said the previous testing by Walton's own experts found he was NOT retarded.
Walton is scheduled to in the electric chair next Wednesday.

Beginning today, it will be tougher to get a Virginia Drivers License. Applicants will now have to show the Department of Motor Vehicles a postmarked piece of mail to prove state residency. The new requirement is to ensure the security of state identifications.
Applicants must also provide proof of residency in the form of a utility bill or something similar, two proofs of identity and proof of a social security number.

Martinsville police have issued an arrest warrant for a teenager they believe shot a school bus with a BB gun.
They're looking for 18 year old DeKey Trevor Penn of Martinsville.
Neither the bus driver nor the lone student on board was hurt in the May 14th incident.
