NASCAR's sports research and development center in Concord, North Carolina has developed a catalyst system that, after a seven month study, has proven to reduce carbon monoxide as much as 75 percent in some tests. Tony Stewart - who has had all kinds of problems with carbon monoxide tested the new device at Martinsville in April. The device sits on the floor in the car next to the driver, and sends clean air to the driver's helmet. The cost is 400 bucks and is not mandatory for teams.
Rick Mast, who suffers from poisoning from the deadly gas, has been a pioneer in bringing the carbon monoxide problem to the attention of NASCAR.
