Bob Hope was just 74 years old when he paid a visit to the Hill City.

On September 14th, 1977, Hope flew into Lynchburg for a variety show at E.C. Glass High School.
The benefit would raise 25- thousand dollars toward construction of a new multi-purpose building at Virginia Baptist Hospital.
Before the show, Hope gathered with fans and played an exhibition round of golf at the Ivy Hills Country Club... and later Hope received the key to the city.

The Craig County sheriff says a couple found dead yesterday at a home in New Castle committed suicide.
Sheriff Billy McPherson says the medical examiner determined that the man and woman took their own lives.
He also said they left a note.
The sheriff did not want to release their names or ages.

The weather is forcing Festival in the Park to move another concert indoors.
Organizers have decided tomorrow's Celebration Night will be held in the Roanoke Civic Center.
The concert featuring contemporary Christian singer Crystal Lewis was supposed to take place in Victory Stadium.
Civic Center doors will open at 5:30 and the show will start an hour later.
Only 10,500 people will be allowed inside.
Parking may also be limited because the James H. Drew Exposition is set up in the Civic Center parking lot.

A passenger aboard a flight in Australia has been arrested after stabbing two flight attendants with what looked like chopsticks.

It happened shortly after take-off.
Two passengers were also injured, as they and the crew managed to overwhelm the attacker.
He had tried to break into the cockpit of the plane that was carrying nearly 50 passengers.
Authorities say the attack did not, however, appear to be tied to terrorism.
The flight attendants are hospitalized with injuries. The attacker is now in custody and is being interviewed by police.
