Franklin County officials say they're not sure what led Joseph Bridges to fire a fatal shot at his brother- in- law Howell Scott yesterday evening.

Investigators say Bridges was waiting in his Ford Pickup truck near Scott's home on Bridges Lane when Scott and his family pulled up in their mini- van. The two met driver's door - to driver's door with Bridges allegedly firing a shot that hit Scott in the head. Sherriff Quint Overton says Bridges later offered to turn himself in under certain circumstances.

Days after his preliminary hearing, a Roanoke man pled guilty to shooting a Florida tourist outside a hotel in March.

Derrick Wakie Smith entered into a plea agreement with the Commonwealth's Attorney this afternoon.
He pled guilty to eight offenses including attempted capital murder, attempted robbery, car jacking, abduction and multiple firearms charges.
Smith admits to shooting Ryan Taboada (Tuh-bwah-duh) in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express and then taking off in the family S-U-V with a three year old girl strapped in the back seat.
Smith faces three life sentences plus 31 years when he is formally sentenced July 22nd.

The U-S Postal Service today unveiled the new stamp at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. Washington ordered the Purple Heart honor in 1782. The 37-cent stamp was made from a photograph of an award given James Loftus Fowler in 1968. The Marine lieutenant colonel served in Vietnam. The original Purple Heart was a badge of distinction for meritorious action. Today, the Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the President of the United States to members of the U. S. military who have been wounded or killed in action.

David Horton was caught kissing -- now he's kissing his freedom goodbye.

His kiss was caught on the Kiss Cam on the stadium scoreboard at a Cincinnati Reds game last night.
Horton was wanted by police on a parole violation.
It just so happenens his parole officer was at the game too and he saw Horton in the stands.
He had police arrest the fugitive and take him to jail.
Horton's now facing 18 years if convicted on drug charges and the parole violation.
