The field of candidates is falling into place for the November elections, but the future of one former lawmaker continues to generate speculation.
It appears that only Dick Cranwell knows for sure whether he plans to seek the 22nd district Senate seat.

Party leaders here and in Richmond, including Governor Mark Warner, have urged Cranwell to run.
So far, the Republican nominee former State Senator Brandon Bell, has no Democratic opposition.
But Cranwell isn't saying what his plans are, and associates claim not to know what the veteran delegate has decided.

A spring water bottling company is possibly looking to expand in Rockbridge County.

The Big Springs in the Kerr's (CARS) Creek region of Rockbridge County is one of several sites Nestle Water is considering for its next spring water bottling plant.
The company will spend the next year and a half looking into water quality and environmental impact of the plant, and if the results are positive, the plant could create nearly 250 jobs.
Nestle Water is working with the Rockbridge Area Conservation Council to look into potential environmental hazards.

Yesterday, Kevin Clifford was convicted of assault, for smacking 16-year old Brett Moyer in the face after a winning game against Halifax last November.

During his testimony in Halifax County Court, the teacher and coach said he was just joking around.
But Moyer says Clifford appeared angry, although his coach hugged him after the slap.
Word about the incident eventually spread although Moyer did *not* report it.

That's what Big East big- wigs wanted to know from Miami's Donna Shalala when they met yesterday.
Tech President Charles Steger - along with the presidents from four other Big East Schools voiced their concerns with Shalala in an hour- long meeting in Washington.
While she wasn't talking to reporters, she later issued a statement saying she understands the importance of doing the right thing for her institution, for both the short term and the long haul.

Halifax County officials now have a second man in custody for a decade- old double murder.

It happened on December 21st 1993 in the parking lot of the Riverdale Amoco on Highway 58, near South Boston.
23 year old Joseph Gibbons and 20 year old John LaPrade, both of Lynchburg, were found shot in the back of the head.
Yesterday, Sheriff's Deputies arrested 30 year old Verlie Word Junior of Halifax.
Investigators say the motive appears to have been robbery.
A drug investigation two years ago produced several clues that led to yesterday's arrest.
