Investigators are working to determine if a body found in the Dan River Sunday is that of a woman last seen alive more than two weeks ago. South Boston police say the body was found late Sunday morning and taken to Richmond for an autopsy.
South Boston is more than 40 miles down the Dan River from the spot in Pittsylvania County where a North Carolina woman was seen thrashing in the water May 24th.
Investigators have not yet released her name.

ACC Commissioner John Swofford says a lawsuit filed by five Big East schools will not stop his league's expansion efforts.
Swofford added that his conference and the three schools involved have followed proper guidelines.

[VO-NAT]

Swofford went on to say that the ACC is disappointed with the lawsuit, in light of the fact that one of the plaintiffs visited the ACC office on May 6th, expressing a desire to join the Atlantic Coast Conference.
That plaintiff was Virginia Tech, but President Charles Steger responded by saying that the visit was an exploratory one, not one in which he asked the league to accept the Hokies in the expansion, rather to get a sense of what might happen.
Miami, Boston College, and Syracuse have until June 30th to join the ACC, or face a 2 million dollar exit fee, instead of a 1 million dollar penalty from the Big East.

Fallon Park and Washington Park pools opened for the summer yesterday. Lifeguards at Fallon Park came in prepared to work, but cloudy skies kept swimmers away. City pools were scheduled to open Memorial Day weekend, but cold water forced them to stay closed.
A few warm days last week WERE enough to warm waters to regulation temperatures.

In Lynchburg, meanwhile, police say an autopsy should reveal more about a suspicious death. Authorities say a body was found Saturday afternoon at the Virginian Apartment Complex on Rivermont Avenue. Police say they aren't sure if the person lived at the complex, or how long the body had been there. Anyone with information is asked to call the Lynchburg Police Department

It's nothing that people in South Boston haven't already seen several times in recent months, but the Dan River is once again above flood stage. The national Weather Service says the river waters will rise another foot or so by early tomorrow morning, then start receding. At six this morning, the Dan was about three feet over flood stage in South Boston.
