Roanoke's School Resource Officers have found themselves at the center of recent controversy involving school safety.
Now one of the officers has been reassigned, and critics complain he is being punished for speaking out.

Lynchburg police are looking into what might have sparked a shooting that left a woman injured last night.

Around 11:30, someone fired a shot into a home in the 1200 block of Tenth Street.
21-year-old Carolyn Marie Lowry was inside watching t-v with her daughter when the bullet hit her in the back.
She's listed in satisfactory condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Police responded to two other calls for shots fired in the neighborhood around the time of the shooting.
No arrests have been made.

The fate of a Fairfax man charged with killing a Lynchburg couple last year is now in the hands of a jury.

22-year-old Leon Jermain Winston is one of two men charged with the murders of Anthony and Ronda Robinson in their Sussex Street home in April of 2002.

Prosecutors say D-N-A and witness testimony positively link Winston to one of the murder weapons.. and a friend of Winston's told police Winston admitted to him he killed the couple.
The jury will begin its deliberations tomorrow morning.

The victim was treated for minor injuries, the teens were taken to the Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center.

A memorial service for a local soldier killed in Iraq will take place this weekend.

23 year old Sergeant Michael Dooley was killed Sunday night when gunmen opened fire at a roadblock near the Syrian border.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM this Saturday at the Updike Funeral Home in Bedford.
Dooley's mother also plans to hold a service in his hometown of Pulaski but a place and date have yet to be set.
Dooley will be buried in Pennsylvania.

Neuheisel gambled with a neighbor, winning 5 thousand dollars in an NCAA Tournament pool. The 42 year old also lied to the NCAA about his involvement in the pool. Neuheisel says he didn't feel that he violated NCAA rules because it was an informal off campus pool, but the NCAA prohibits coaches from gambling on college sports.
