Health officials have confirmed that a dead crow found in Pittsylvania County earlier this week was infected with the West Nile Virus.
The bird was found Monday in the Dry Fork Area of the county on W. J. Powell Road.
So far this year, the state has had no reports of west nile in humans, but in 2002 twenty nine people became ill and two died.
The West Nile virus is spread through the bite of infected mosquitos, and health officials say they are expecting an increase in the number of cases this year.
