Army Sergeant Michael Dooley was shot and killed last Sunday when he was fired upon at a roadblock in Iraq. Dooley was responding to some people who had requested medical attention. His family says he was always trying to help those in need. Dooley's father says we need to remember the troops who are still overseas.

Lynchburg Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing two people in a hotel parking lot. 38 year old Keith Henry Booth of Lynchburg faces two counts of malicious wounding.
Authorities say 31 year old Gary Thurmon Webb was found lying in front of the parking lot of the Radisson on Candlers Mountain Road. He had lacerations to both his face and arm. No word on his condition but he remains hospitalized. Another man was also cut during the incident, but was treated and released.

U-S customs agents and Thai police have arrested a suspect trying to sell more than sixty pounds of radioactive material.

The 44-year old Thai man was arrested in the parking lot of a Bangkok hotel. Authorities say he offered to sell customs agents uranium--it turned out to be Cesium-137, not as powerful but nearly as deadly. The seller thought he was dealing with terrorists, and the material was meant to be used in a "dirty bomb"--a bomb that spreads radiation. The amount of radioactive material taken is about the same that was released at Chernobyl in 19-86.

Scott Riggs and Ron Hornaday battled for the lead with 30 laps to go. Hornaday sends Riggs into a tailspin ending his hopes for the victory as several other cars get involved late.
Hamilton then chased down Jason Keller with 3 laps left. He held on to take the checkered flag.

According to Nascar insiders, the Winston Cup is a thing of the past. The sanctioning body has reached an agreement with wireless company Nextel to be the title sponsor starting next season. R-J Reynolds had been the series sponsor for over 30 years. The official announcement is scheduled to be made next month at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona.

On the track today in Michigan Brett Bodine was injured in this Happy Hour practice crash. Bodine ran over some debris and cut down a right front tire. He was briefly unconscious and suffered a broken right collarbone. He was taken to a hospital for observation. Bodine will miss tomorrow's Sirius 400. His brother Geoffrey will replace him behind the wheel.

The Salem Avalanche was officially eliminated from the first half pennant chase in the Carolina League tonight. The Avs lost a 4-2 decision at Myrtle Beach, and Winston Salem beat Wilmington 2-1 meaning that the Warthogs clinch the Southern Division title. Salem wraps up the first half tomorrow. With the Wilmington loss, the Lynchburg Hillcats are tied with the Blue Rocks for first in the Northern Division.
