The rain is holding up repairs on a washed-out road in Bedford County.

Residents of Fairdale Farms were hopeful that repairs on the road leading to their homes would start today. Valley Wide Paving offered to provide free labor for the project since the private road was washed out and the neighborhood's road fund only has about 7-hundred dollars. But today's heavy rains are pushing the starting date back.

Residents are fearful more rain will add to the rushing waters and take down the temporary foot bridge. They're expected to meet this week to discuss the situation. Not far from there also in Bedford County, V-DOT still has Route-757 closed to traffic. Much of one side of the road was washed away by flood waters. V-DOT officials say repairs are slated to start this Wednesday but could take until next week depending on weather.

Rivers were on the rise today in central and western Virginia, as heavy rains brought them close to capacity, but so far most remain within their banks.

Jean, the Roanoke Valley saw anywhere from half an inch to two inches of rain this morning... The river was running high before noon, covering both low water bridges... and it hasn't begun to fall yet.

((The work week started with the rainy routine, creating hazards on the highway, and a rising torrent in area creeks, streams and rivers.
The heavy rain contributed to a number of minor accidents on I-581 and other highways... where standing water caused vehicles to hydroplane.
By mid-day, the worst of the weather had passed, but some low-lying areas were under water, rivers were still rising closer to their capacity, and residents were keeping a wary eye on a forecast that includes more rain tonight and tomorrow.))

A 25 year old woman is arrested for leading an immigrant smuggling ring.

It was just last month that a trailer full of immigrants was found in Texas. 17 of those passengers were found dead- two died later.
Karla Patricia Chavez was arrested Friday in Honduras and is being indicted along with 12 others on smuggling charges.
The immigrants found in May were in a trailer southwest of Houston after the driver, Tyrone Williams, left the trailer that morning.
A five year old Mexican boy was among those who suffocated to death. Others died from dehydration and the heat.

An explosion rocks a traffic tunnel in Central Baghdad injuring five Iraqis.

A civilian car was destroyed as it drove through a Baghdad tunnel.
U-S troops and Iraqi police say the explosion was probably caused by a landmine.
American convoys reportedly drive through the tunnel several times a day.
Iraqi policemen inspected a large hole in the road at the site of the explosion and said a mine could have been planted there.
One of the wounded Iraqis lost a finger in the blast and had injuries to his face and leg.

Good afternoon everyone, welcome to your monday two mitue ticker which starts with the Big East/ACC situation. All along the reports indicate that if there is a move from the Big East to the ACC it would involve three schools, Miami, Syracuse and Boston College. But new reports have raised another scenario. N.C. State athletic director Lee Fowler told the Charlotte Observer recently that adding only Miami is something that could definitelty happen under the right financial circumstances. He also said that the presidents have not discussed this schenario as of yet. Tech president Charles Steger and the other Big East partners are supposed to hear back from the ACC tomorrow on whether or not the ACC will grant them a face to face meeting. Steger spoke to News 7 from the Pulaski Rotary meeting today.

Today, Morgan McClure motor sports fired Mike Skinner. Skinner has been with Morgan McClure sence the end of 2001. During that time he has one top 10 finish in 50 races. Skinner and the team hit rock bottom this past weekend when he failed to qualify the number four Pontiac of the Siruis 400 at Michigan. The likely replacement is John Andretti.
In otehr racing news, Roush racing will lose its' Citgo sponsorship at the end of the season. Citgo has been the chief Sponsor for Jeff Burton and the number 99 Ford Taurus for the past three years.
